Article in The Hindu

Something about me got published here in The Hindu Businessline.

This is what the article reads

On the half-ball!
The BOSU ball adds a new dimension to workouts..

“It helps increase core strength and improves performance in everyday activities through improved stability, mobility, balance and coordination.”

Jyothsna Kedar (27) started exercising a few months after delivering her baby as she wanted to lose the extra kilos gained during pregnancy. She chose the ‘BOSU ball' or ‘blue half-ball' for her workouts. An inflated rubber hemisphere with a rigid base, BOSU is an acronym for ‘both sides up', referring to the dual nature of its use.
“It can be used with the platform facing up or down, for different types of balance challenges,” says Kiran Sawhney, a fitness expert in Delhi. “Balance is the foundation of all movements, and the BOSU ball is specifically designed to achieve balance quickly and safely.”
With the dome facing up, the BOSU ball provides an unstable surface for exercising, while the device itself remains flat and steady on the floor. In this position, the dome can be used for balance, core stability, cardio and strength training, says Kiran. In the inverted position, the device can be used for specific exercises like push-ups or sitting exercises.
Health benefits
Fitness experts say the BOSU ball provides manifold benefits. “It improves performance in everyday activities through improved stability, mobility, balance and coordination,” says Madhuri Ruia, who runs the health studio Half in Mumbai.
Kiran, who uses the BOSU training ball for many of her clients, describes it as a mindful approach to exercise and a step beyond traditional training. “Working on a non-balanced surface like the BOSU ball helps enhance pro-prioceptive neuro-muscular facilitation,” she says.
Prioception signals are sent through nerves to the brain, which then commands the muscle to work in a specific way.
